So many of us grew up thinking that being an inventor would be a cool job, and this is still very much something which resonates with kids today. Unfortunately however, being an inventor is not always what it is cracked up to be, and whilst some like Joon Faii Ong find great success with their brilliant gadgets and inventions, not all have the same career path. Sadly there are many inventors who just never find the success that they are looking for, who spend their lives trying to push their ideas, only for others not to understand. For this reason, it is essential that if you are going to follow this career option, that you have the right attributes.
Problem Solving
The idea of inventing anything is to solve a problem, perhaps this could even be a problem which most didn’t know existed. This is the key reason why inventors have to be a special type of person, because they are not only the ones who are able to spot an issue and a problem, they are also the people who have the foresight and the ingenuity to actually find a solution. If you have this skill then this may be for you.
Dedication
The unfortunate position which many inventors find themselves in, in terms of spending their life on something which doesn’t come to fruition, are those with outstanding dedication. On the flip side, those who do find great success in this area, are also those with outstanding dedication. You cannot be a part time inventor, you cannot find success with a fleeting thought, it takes a lot of hours, a lot of hard work and a great deal of dedication to find any levels of success.
Creativity
Creativity is of course a key component of being an inventor and those who don’t have it, even if they have a passion for problem solving, are those who can’t succeed in this game. Every aspect of design and inventing comes from having that need to express creatively. Those who do have high levels of creativity and a passion for problem solving are more likely to find the solutions that are needed to come up with great new products.
Patience
One of the strangest virtues which an inventor has, is the understanding of urgency to get the design completed and to solve an issue with speed, yet also a patience for the project. This balance is not easy and it is one of the key reasons why so may who think that they could be an inventor, are actually not able to achieve those heights. Things go wrong, ideas get rejected, problems are solved by others first, and all told it is a career which requires huge amounts of patience.
