Suffering From Whiplash? Here’s What You Need To Know

So, what exactly is whiplash? It’s a tightening sensation in your neck and a restricted range of motion following a dramatic jerk movement. Usually, it occurs after getting rear-ended in a car accident; however, it also commonly occurs in sports or on amusement park rides.

It happens when your neck overextends beyond where it should and stretches your ligaments and tendons. If this sounds like your situation, then it’s vital that you are informed. Here is what you need to know about whiplash.

You May Be Eligible For Compensation

If you suffered whiplash as a direct result of someone else’s negligence on the road, then you should talk to a lawyer about being compensated. Although symptoms are often temporary and don’t last beyond a few days, in some cases, you could be affected for life.

If you have a more serious case of whiplash, then it’s critical that you receive compensation for your suffering. A lawyer will be able to look at your specific circumstances and determine whether they think it’s worth pursuing or not. Even if you have insurance, it won’t cover everything that you need to make a recovery. Therefore, you should act fast by consulting with a lawyer.

You Should Call a Doctor

Many people who have suffered whiplash don’t realize until too much time has passed. Even if you’re convinced that you’re fine, it’s important to see a doctor. In many cases, whiplash doesn’t appear until several days, weeks, or even months have passed.

If you realize that you have whiplash several months later yet didn’t see a doctor yet, you won’t be able to pursue compensation. In order to protect yourself, you should take action early on. Save a paper a trail and any other evidence that you suffered an injury.

You Will Experience Pain For A While

You may experience pain in your shoulders, upper back, and even feel a tightness when you breathe. These are all typical symptoms of whiplash. You will likely feel them for a while. The good news is that over time, most people make a full recovery.

Get Plenty of Rest

In order to promote a full recovery, it’s important that you rest. Being too overly active could worsen your injury further. If you feel pain and discomfort, making certain movements, then stop immediately.

Your doctor will likely recommend treatments like massage, or a cervical collar. If your pain is considerably intense, you’ll be prescribed medication that will ease your discomfort.

Follow Future Prevention Tips

In order to prevent whiplash again in the future, you should take the right preventive measures. Always wear a seatbelt, and stay aware of your surroundings when driving.
